CD-7 Updates

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

The Denver Post?has a quick update on things in the CD-7 Democratic primary:?

Helen Thorpe is co-hosting a fundraising bash for 7th Congressional District candidate Peggy Lamm this Wednesday. We can’t help but wonder if that means Thorpe’s hubby, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, is taking sides in what’s shaping up as one of the most competitive congressional races in the country. Lamm, a former state representative, is squaring off in the Aug. 8 Democratic primary against former state Sen. Ed Perlmutter and businessman Herb Rubenstein. Lamm submitted petitions to the secretary of state last week to get her name on the ballot.

The fundraiser will be held at the downtown Denver loft of the other co-host, real estate mogul Buck Blessing. Attendees will be asked to contribute between $100 and $250. Asked whether hizzoner the mayor might attend, Lamm’s campaign manager Jim Merlino said, “Gee, I don’t know.”

By the way, Congressman John Salazar‘s office says he has not endorsed any candidate in the 7th CD primary. There is a photo of Salazar and Lamm featured prominently on Lamm’s campaign website.

Elsewhere, there was much discussion over our post last week that Democrat Peggy Lamm is the new favorite in the CD-7 primary, but we aren’t the only ones who have noticed the shifting winds. Here’s Friday’s update from “The Fix” at?The Washington Post:

1. Colorado’s 7th District: Former state Rep. Peggy Lamm (D) has turned her primary with former state Sen. Ed Perlmutter (D) into a real race. Meanwhile, Republican Rick O’Donnell sits on the sidelines and collects cash — $686,000 on hand at the end of March. Still, this suburban Denver seat is moving away from Republicans demographically, and 2006 is shaping up to be another good year for Colorado Democrats. (Previous ranking: 1)

But that’s not all…The Washington Times doesn’t mention Herb Rubenstein and calls Perlmutter a “slight favorite”:

Two Democrats, Peggy Lamm and Ed Perlmutter, are competing for their party’s nomination.?Mr. Perlmutter is considered to have a slight edge both in his Democratic primary and in the general election.
